THE 'PROMOTIONAL' SIDE OF BOLLYWOOD!

Have you ever tried to analyse the complex business of Bollywood? Ever tried to get into the depth of the marketing and strategic management of Bollywood?
Well, I have...
Bollywood is not just about releasing one film after the other at the multiplexes. Coming straight to the point... Recent records show that it's not necessary that a film released under a big banner and starring the biggies of B-Town will prove to be a big hit at the box office. Of course, they are the success elements of a movie. But they won't work if the promotional strategies are not well-planned and well-executed. Every film demands heavy promotions. In today's era where social media has become such a great part of our lives, it becomes easy for the marketing partners to promote their movie really well. Strategies involve keeping the audience well updated about the song and trailer releases, fun on the sets, interesting facts about the stars and what went into the making of the film. Also, contests relating to music launches, trailer launch, etc form an integral part of marketing strategies. When big brands associate with the film, it's a win-win situation for both.
Promotions work like a hypno-therapy for the audience. The movie gets deeply engrossed in the minds of people even before it is released. Producers shed exorbitant amounts on promotions. The overall expenditure plus the actor or actress's appearance fee runs into crores. And not to forget, promotions are not restricted to the geographical borders of our country. They even happen overseas and in this situation you can imagine the huge figures involved in the promotional expenses!
But then, when the tree bears fruits, what is the problem? At the end, the producers are rewarded heavily when their film gains worldwide success and graces the 100-crore club!
Every film has its own destiny. It definitely meets its fate at the box-office. But in today's scenario, in order for a film to make a huge cut at the box-office, the producers MUST follow this success mantra :

PROMOTIONS! PROMOTIONS!! PROMOTIONS!!!
